West Virginia Universitys Mountainlair is beginning the new academic year with a new look, including a refurbished Hatfields and addition of a Quiznos restaurant.

During the second phase of renovations, new gold-and-blue carpet and coordinating window treatments, along with cherry tables and chairs engraved with WVU s trademarkFlying WV,were added over the summer to give Hatfields a brighter, more open look.

When the eatery reopens to the public today (Aug. 20), diners will also see a new largeFlying WVlogo on the floor, adding to the Mountaineer atmosphere.

The project was approved by WVU and the Mountainlair Advisory Council, which consists of eight studentsmostly members of the Student Government Association (SGA) Board of Governors, faculty representatives and Mountainlair staff, said Michael Ellington, assistant vice president for Student Affairs.

Hatfields features fresh, made-to-order deli sandwiches, a variety of hot entrees, HealthyUoptions, a salad bar and a breakfast buffet. Hours are 7:15-10 a.m. and 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday through Friday; the restaurant is closed Saturday and Sunday.

Quiznos, specializing in toasted submarine sandwiches, is expected to open in the Mountainlair commons between Just Another Convenience Store (JACS) and Ds Express in about three weeks.

Former SGA President Jason Gross and Vice President Beth Belch played a large role in bringing the eatery to WVU , Ellington said.

We wanted to suit the students,he said, and by adding a variety of restaurants to choose from, there is going to be something to make everyone happy. Students wanted a sandwich shop with a recognizable name.

Ellington added,Quiznos made the best offer from both a financial and service standpoint to WVU .

Ismail Latif will be managing the restaurant and anticipates hiring 20-25 employees, mostly WVU students. Quiznos is a contracted food operator; it is not a WVU -run sandwich shop.

Store hours will be from 7 a.m.-9 p.m. Students who have purchased meal plans can eat there for breakfast and dinner as a meal equivalent. Mountie Bounty will also be accepted, Ellington said.
