Representatives from West Virginia University Hospitals-East (WVUH-East) and Greenvest L.C. announce the donation of approximately 30 acres of land to be used for the future relocation of the local not-for-profit, Jefferson Memorial Hospital. The land is located along Route 340 and Augustine Avenue near Cave Road on the property currently known as the Hayes Property.

We appreciate the generous donation of land from Greenvest, said Roger Eitelman, President and CEO of WVUH -East.Jefferson Memorial Hospital has served the citizens of the Eastern Panhandle and the surrounding community for over a century. We are proud of the hospitals legacy and look forward to building on that legacy to continue to provide the highest quality health care to the current and future residents of the community. This donation of land is a significant step towards that goal, continued Eitelman.

The land donation for the hospital site is part of an annexation application filed by Greenvest, L.C. to the City of Charles Town on August 17, 2006 and, in addition to the hospital, includes plans for as much as 80,000 square feet of medical office space.Greenvest is honored to be a partner with West Virginia University Hospitals-East to provide medical services to the community, said Jim Duszynski, CEO , Greenvest L.C.

WVUH -East officials have been evaluating various land options in Jefferson County over the past several months that would initially house physician office buildings and ultimately a new hospital. We have been very thorough in our search for land that will accommodate not only our current needs but allow for future growth,Eitelman said, adding that once criteria were developed for the ideal parcel of land, several sites were given serious consideration. It was determined that the parcel should be a minimum of 30 acres located on a high-speed highway that offered high visibility, multiple entrances and appropriate utility sources. The 30 acres of land being donated by Greenvest clearly meets all of our criteria,Eitelman commented.

The 183-acre development adjacent to the hospital site is being planned to accommodate town homes in various configurations, garden-style condominiums, and a retail center, according to Steve Welch, Director of Infrastructure Development for Greenvest L.C. Welch went on to say thatthe retail area is currently planned to include a restaurant, bank, drug store/pharmacy, day care center and other businesses for the immediate and surrounding communities.

This is another example of how public/private partnerships can work to better serve the citizens of our City and County, said Peggy Smith, Mayor of the City of Charles Town. Mayor Smith continued,In two very important arenas, education and health care, partnerships such as this improve the quality of life of our children and families; whether theyve belonged to our community for several generations, a few years or just contemplating a move here.
