West Virginia Universitys Community Music Program is currently registering students for summer singing classes at the Creative Arts Center.

The classes includeI Love to Sing,a five-day workshop for ages 7 to 9 and also ages 9 to 11. The workshop for ages 7 to 9 will be held Aug. 2-6 and the workshop for ages 9 to 11 will be held Aug. 9-12. The hours for both workshops will be 11 a.m. to noon.

Instructor Deborah Morgan will teach basic healthy vocal techniques that apply to voices at all stages of life. These techniques include proper breathing, excellent diction, the singer as actress/actor and preparing for auditions. The students will also learn solo and group songs. The cost of each workshop is $45.

For adults there isCroon a Tune,a six-week class that will be held on Tuesdays, during July 6-Aug. 10, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The instructor is Catharine Thieme.

This class will explore the techniques involved in song stylizing and will focus on songs from musical theatre and popular music of the 1930s through the 1960s. The class will also cover the related areas of voice production, presentation, stage, and suitable repertoire for various occasions. The cost of the class is $70.

Private voice lessons are also available throughout the summer, as well as lessons in all traditional instruments.
