Media covering Special Olympics West Virginia Summer Games June 4-6 at West Virginia University must check-in at a special registration tent located directly in front of the Natatorium. Required media credentialing, press packets, venue maps and event schedules will be available. Help will be provided as needed in facilitating interviews and photos. Highlights of this years games include:

  • Statewide Torch Run, led by state law enforcement officers. The torch will arrive at the Sabraton Hardees at 9 a.m. Friday, June 4. It will then be carried to the WVU Coliseum with an estimated arrival time of noon. Later, a Parkersburg police officer and a Marion County Special Olympian will run into the Coliseum during 8 p.m. opening ceremonies, signifying the official start of the games.
  • Opening Ceremonies, 8 p.m., Friday, June 4, WVU Coliseum. Highlights will include a parade of nearly 700 athletes from across West Virginia, the lighting of the Flame of Hope, and Philip Reale, chairman, board of directors, Special Olympics WV, will speak, among other presenters.
  • Summer Games, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Saturday, June 5, most WVU sports venues.
  • Victory Dance, 7-10 p.m., Saturday, June 5, WVU Evansdale Residential Complex Tennis Courts
  • Closing Ceremonies, 11:45 a.m., Sunday, June 6, WVU Track
