A planned partnership between West Virginia University and Mylan Park will provide a new home for “The Pride of West Virginia,” the Mountaineer Marching Band, starting in August 2024.

Representing West Virginia University and the entire Mountain State, “The Pride of West Virginia,” the Mountaineer Marching Band, will participate in the 2024 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, marking the second appearance for the band in the historic parade.

West Virginia University laid the foundation to become a modern flagship, land-grant, R1 institution as its Board of Governors approved recommendations for 25 academic units during a meeting Friday (Sept. 15).

The West Virginia University Office of the Provost announced seven additional final recommendations on Thursday (Aug. 31) from appeals hearings held as part of the Academic Transformation program portfolio review process, including those for Chemistry, Plant and Soil Sciences, Theatre and Dance, Art and Design, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Law, and Mathematical and Data Sciences.

A shared mission to serve the people of West Virginia and expertise in areas such as agriculture, natural resources, youth development, health and safety, community development and engagement will serve as the foundation for a new unit at West Virginia University composed of the Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Design and WVU Extension.

The seven West Virginia University students and alumni will teach English or conduct research abroad over the next year, part of the U.S. government’s flagship international exchange program.

West Virginia University, the state’s flagship, land-grant R1 institution, reported a record $231 million in externally supported expenditures, which are mainly designated for research, for fiscal year 2023.

An event-packed Welcome Week at West Virginia University begins Thursday, Aug. 10, and continues into the start of the fall semester, Wednesday, Aug. 16, highlighting the many ways new and returning students can tap into their strengths, find their purpose and make a home on campus.
