Several key units at West Virginia University have been realigned to improve efficiency and effectiveness, the University announced Wednesday.

Institutional Research moves from Strategic Initiatives to the Office of the Provost and will report to Vice Provost John Campbell. Enrollment Management, which includes student recruitment and financial aid, moves from the provost’s office to an expanded University Relations, where it will report to Vice President Sharon Martin. Also, the Parents Club will move from Student Life to University Relations, while continuing to have a strong partnership with Student Life leadership and initiatives.

“It is crucial as we go forward that the University is structured in a way that creates synergies within key areas,” President Gordon Gee said. “This realignment does just that and will make West Virginia University more agile and responsive. Both John and Sharon have proven to be effective leaders, and I am excited to see the coming results.”

Prior to being named vice provost, Campbell served as WVU’s associate provost for information technology and chief information officer. Previously, he was associate vice president for academic technologies at Purdue University where his responsibilities focused on the support, empowerment and enhancement of faculty efforts in research and teaching and learning. He also has a long history of analyzing and using data to improve student retention.

Martin came to WVU in 2013 from Purdue, where she had been assistant vice president of marketing. Previously, she owned and operated a boutique marketing and communication agency and founded a local women’s magazine and non-profit organization that focused on women’s issues. Earlier in her career, she served as director of communications and editor of the Purdue Alumni Association magazine.

The changes are effective immediately.
