WVU and CDC partnership helps build healthy futures in southern West Virginia

Last year, faculty from WVU Extension Service, WVU College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences, and WVU School of Public Health and West Virginia Prevention Research Center entered into a five-year contractual partnership with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to make a group of West Virginia University employees’ dream of a healthier West Virginia come true. The Be Wild, Be Wonderful, Be Healthy project is a community-based project that aims to create local solutions for our state’s health-related challenges by supporting projects in Clay and McDowell counties that increase access to physical activity and healthy foods.

WVU to host vendor fair for small, diverse and local businesses

West Virginia University is committed to the economic development of small, diverse and local businesses throughout the state. As part of this commitment, the University continuously seeks out diverse suppliers to expand the number of companies participating in the public procurement process. Procurement, Contracting and Payment Services will host a vendor fair Tuesday, Oct. 8, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Engineering and marching band: A match made in WVU

A love of marching bands and the desire to become an engineer led Martinsburg native Jessica Hammersla to West Virginia University. As drum major, the junior is responsible for making sure the Pride of West Virginia Mountaineer Marching Band is playing in unison, something she’ll be doing during Saturday’s Homecoming game at Milan Puskar Stadium.

Economic Outlook Conferences to kick-off Oct. 9 in Charleston

This year’s lineup of speakers includes leaders in the state and region addressing topics related to the national and state economy with an in-depth discussion of what can be done to strengthen West Virginia’s economy. The first conference in the series takes place in Charleston Oct. 9.

Mountaineer Timmy Eads to get flu shot

West Virginia University Mountaineer Mascot Timmy Eads will help WVU School of Pharmacy students bring awareness to flu prevention by getting his flu shot in his buckskins Wednesday (Oct. 2) at 1:30 p.m. in the Cook-Hayman Pharmacy Museum.

Gandhi exhibit in India inspired by WVU College of Law professor

When the National Gandhi Museum and the Delhi High Court Bar Association in India wanted to stage an exhibit about Mahatma Gandhi’s early years as a lawyer, they drew inspiration from the scholarship of a law professor at West Virginia University.
