WVU Collegiate Horsemen’s Association to raise funds for U. S. Equestrian Federation Disaster Relief Fund

The West Virginia University Collegiate Horsemen’s Association will hold an indoor sale to benefit the U. S. Equestrian Federation Disaster Relief Fund Sunday (Feb. 10) from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the J. W. Ruby Research Farm, Reedsville. The United States Equestrian Federation Disaster Relief Fund which helps to ensure the safety and well-being of horses affected by natural disasters.

UPDATE: School now open after WVU fraternities and sororities raise money to empower women across the globe

A community-wide philanthropic endeavor led by the women in the Panhellenic Association at West Virginia University has raised $37,000 for the Circle of Sisterhood Foundation to help build a school in Malawi, an effort to support entities around the world that remove educational barriers for girls and women who face poverty and oppression. The school is now open and students are attending classes.

West Virginia Small Farm Conference to help local farmers grow food and communities

There’s a growing desire among communities, restaurants and schools to use high quality, locally sourced ingredients. At the fifteenth annual West Virginia University Extension Service Small Farm Conference held in Charleston, the WVU Extension Service Small Farm Center is offering classes to teach farmers how to adapt their enterprises to meet the rising demand for local foods.

WV Forward, WV Public Education Collaborative and WVU Provost Office to host inaugural WV Women Moving Forward event

Nearly 90 West Virginia women from across the state will convene at the Erickson Alumni Center to help uncover solutions that address challenges unique to women. WV Forward and the WV Public Education Collaborative, along with WVU Provost Joyce McConnell and First Lady Laurie Erickson, are partnering to coordinate results-oriented conversations aimed to empower more women to play an active role in blazing a path toward a future in which all West Virginians can stand on equal footing to attain the high-quality educational opportunities, secure jobs and sustainable pay.
