Recognizing the journalism world is changing by the minute, the WVU Perley Isaac Reed School of Journalism has launched a new converged "journalism" major to better prepare students for careers in digital media. The new major in journalism replaces the previous silos of broadcast news and news-editorial and requires students to produce content across media platforms as they will in today?s converged newsrooms.

The West Virginia University's Personal Rapid Transit system (PRT) will not be in operation during the Thanksgiving holiday break. With the exception of WVU Football service, the PRT will stop public operation on Friday, Nov. 20 at 10:15 p.m. and not resume until Monday, Nov. 30 at 6:30 a.m.

WE CAR has a new parking location in Sunnyside

WE Car came to Sunnyside Friday, November 20th. This new location makes a total of five energy-efficient WE Cars on West Virginia University's campuses.

With the game ball in hand, students and community members from West Virginia University and other schools will Run From Pitt on Saturday (Nov. 21) to raise awareness for autism. Participants in the 40th Run To/From Pitt (the destination switches each year depending on the location of the game) will leave Heinz Field in Pittsburgh at around 6:30 a.m. and arrive at Milan Puskar Stadium in Morgantown around 7 p.m. The run is organized by service fraternity Alpha Phi Omega.

West Virginia University students are looking for help in preparing for the annual Students Helping Other People (SHOP) and Toy Mountain programs to benefit local disadvantaged children this holiday season. WVU's Student Organization Services and Student Government Association are collecting financial donations to benefit 80 or more kids ages 6-12 from Monongalia County through mid-December.

WVU Police dedicated to keeping campus safe

From text messages and shoe leather to workshops and community meetings, West Virginia University's 52 police officers constantly strive to ensure the campus is a safe environment. "Nothing is more important than the safety of our students," says WVU Police Chief Bob Roberts. "At WVU, we are committed to finding new ways to reduce and prevent crime, and to teach students how to protect themselves and be more aware of potentially dangerous situations.

WVU residence halls close at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20 and reopen at noon Sunday, Nov. 29. Dining Services will serve meals at its usual locations and times through 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20. The dining hall will open for lunch and dinner on Sunday, Nov. 29.

To help get students home for the holidays, West Virginia University's Mountaineer Parents Club is offering bus transportation. Reservations for Thanksgiving and Winter breaks are currently being accepted and will last until all spots are taken. Currently buses are being offered to Allentown, Pa., Hagerstown, Md., Secaucus, N.J. and Philadelphia, Pa. The Northern Virginia, Central Maryland and Long Island, N.Y. Parents Clubs are also offering buses to those areas.

West Virginia University Board of Governors Chair Carolyn Long commended Gov. Joe Manchin on today's (Nov. 17) appointment of Thomas V. Flaherty as a new member of the Board. "Tom Flaherty is an outstanding attorney and community servant, and someone who has made this state and University proud," Long said. "I think he'll make an excellent Board member. We welcome his input and expertise as we continue to work together on behalf of WVU."

Gov. Joe Manchin today (Nov. 17) announced the appointment of Tom Flaherty, founding member of the law firm of Flaherty, Sensabaugh & Bonasso (FS&B), to the West Virginia University Board of Governors.
