The Mountaineer Parents Club will welcome families of West Virginia University students to campus this weekend for the annual Fall Family Weekend. WVU will host a variety of social and educational opportunities to help connect families to the WVU campus, Mountaineer culture, and the greater Morgantown community.

“Fall Family Weekend is great time on campus for students and their families to reconnect,” said Sabrina Cave, assistant vice president of Parent Programs. “Students love having their families visit so that they can show off their new home.”

Registration is set to begin at 4:30 p.m. Friday (Sept. 22) at the Student Recreation Center, where family members will be greeted by staff from several different units at WVU and can enjoy a Mountaineer family picnic.

The weekend’s festivities will also feature a game watch party on Saturday, as the Mountaineers take on the Kansas Jayhawks at Memorial Stadium in Lawrence, Kansas; an opportunity to experience academic lectures, and sporting events, among many other Mountaineer experiences.

“We want families to experience all that our campus has to offer students,” Cave said. “Families can zip-line through our forest, experience WVUp All Night, attend a women’s volleyball game or men’s soccer game, work out at the Student Recreation Center and enjoy a complimentary breakfast before heading home Sunday morning.”

“New this year, families can enjoy “Academic Speed Dating” sessions that will bring together faculty mini-lectures and mini-tours of some of the more innovative and collaborative academic spaces where student take learning beyond the classroom,” she added. “Presentations and topics will include service dog training, politics and terrorism and leadership."

Additional events have also been scheduled for families who are eager to explore the Greater Morgantown community. This year’s annual ARTS WALK will provide an opportunity for families to spend Friday evening strolling through more than 40 downtown businesses while viewing works of art from local artists. Family members can also enjoy music and dining choices at several venues located in Downtown Morgantown.
