Redefining literacy: WVU rolls out nationally accredited online masters in literacy education

The definition of literacy has evolved to include not only reading, but writing, speaking, listening and visual literacy, as well. So it made sense for West Virginia University professors Allison Dagen and Aimee Morewood to reinvent the College of Education and Human Services reading specialist certification program to reflect a more current delivery method for the degree program.

Buchanan to attend Honda Cup award ceremony

West Virginia University women’s soccer defender Kadeisha Buchanan will join 11 other finalists vying for the Honda Cup at the 2017 Collegiate Women Sports Awards Show presented by Honda on Monday, June 26, at the USC Galen Center Founders Room in Los Angeles.

West Virginia University is among the top 40 safest campuses in the United States, according to the National Council for Home Safety and Security. Ranked 34th among 2,000 colleges assessed on campus safety, University Police protects more than 30,000 students and 6,000 employees.

For the first time in program history, the West Virginia University women’s soccer team will be represented at The ESPYs, as five-time All-American Kadeisha Buchanan is a nominee for the Best Female College Athlete.

WVU team MIDAS brings home the gold in NASA’s Mars Ice Challenge

West Virginia University was the only school in the nation to send two teams to NASA’s Mars Ice Challenge, a three-day event that challenged teams to extract water from simulated Martian subsurface ice. In the end, one team—Mountaineer Ice Drilling Automated System or MIDAS—had the golden touch.
