The West Virginia University Alumni Association lobby has a new look thanks to a remarkable gift from alumni James and Karen Caveney. The newly named “James and Karen Caveney Welcome Center” will serve as the hub of information for events that are held at the Erickson Alumni Center. The beautiful and artistic front desk now offers a modern look in a professional atmosphere.

Dr. James and Karen Caveney share 19 WVU degrees within their immediate family; including eight doctorate degrees and are large supporters of West Virginia University’s mission to continue providing world-class research and education to the state of West Virginia and beyond.

“The Alumni Center is the hub of WVU. We wanted all of our alumni and our visitors to the Erickson Center to be welcomed immediately as they enter the building,” James Caveney said.

“With this generous gift from the Caveneys, the Erickson Alumni Center really can showcase the world-class facility we have here in Morgantown,” said Sean Frisbee, President of the WVU Alumni Association. “We are the gateway of information between our alumni connecting back with the University, and this welcome center will provide a beautiful setting to engage with our visitors and graduates.”

This is the latest gift from the Caveneys to WVU.  Previous gifts include creation of the James and Karen Caveney Alumni Association Faculty Excellence Award, the WVU Wall of Academic Scholars at the Erickson Alumni Center, and the Caveney Conference and Creativity Center at the WVU Health Sciences Center. This gift was made in conjunction with A State of Minds: The Campaign for West Virginia’s University which runs through December 2017.
