Some West Virginia University traditions like singing Country Roads are long-time favorites of alumni, but a new tradition that will continue the Mountaineer connection can have alumni hitting those roads and headed to one of the state’s premier summer venues.

The WVU Alumni Association and Adventure WV announced a partnership with Snowshoe Mountain Resort to bring a series of events, named WVU Mountaineer Camps, to the resort this summer.

Mountaineer Camps at Snowshoe Mountain are the next great WVU Mountaineer tradition,” said Sean Frisbee, president of the WVU Alumni Association. “Mountaineer Camps give you the perfect time and a great place to reconnect with your WVU family and guests in a picturesque West Virginia mountain setting.”

From non-stop fun activities for kids to all-inclusive amenities for adults, the WVU Mountaineer Camps will have a little bit of everything for WVU alumni. Participants will have the opportunity to attend social events and alumni mixers that combine their favorite Mountaineer traditions with Snowshoe’s summer adventures and activities.

“Snowshoe Mountain has long been a central gathering place for group and family get-togethers from all over the southeast,” said Frank DeBerry, president and COO of Snowshoe Mountain. “With our strong ties to WVU, this is a perfect fit. It’s the traditional summer camp fully reimagined and customized specifically for West Virginia University Alumni, their family and friends.”

The Mountaineer Camps consist of two different packages, including the Mountaineer Family Camps and the Mountaineer Adventure Camps.

The Mountaineer Family Camps are a seven-day all-inclusive package for parents and children. It is limited to 80 participating families and will take place July 2-9 and August 6-13. The package includes fun activities like mountaintop lodging, chef-prepared meals, kids’ activities guided by Adventure WV staff and unlimited outdoor resort activities, including golf, mountain biking, horseback rides, fishing, lake activities, yoga, arts and crafts, sporting clays, guided hikes and more.

While the Mountaineer Family Camps are geared more towards families, the Mountaineer Adventure Camps are intended for new WVU alumni. The four-day camp is limited 300 participants and will be held July 9-13. It consists of more adrenaline-focused outdoor activities, such as Polaris RZR tours, mountain bike clinics, sporting clays, disc golf, craft beer sampling and live evening concerts.

Mountaineer Family Camps are available first-come, first-served basis. Non-refundable deposits are currently being accepted for 2017 camp spots. Reservations can be made at WVUMountaineerCamps.com or by calling Snowshoe’s central reservations center at 877.441.4386. All family and guests of WVU Alumni are welcome to participate in the Mountaineer Camps experience. The qualification being they must be accompanying a participating WVU Alumni. The per-person costs to participate are the same.
