WVU community music choirs to present spring concert

Talented young singers in the West Virginia University Community Music Program's elementary and youth choirs will present a spring concert Monday, May 1, at the Creative Arts Center .

The program, which is free and open to the public, begins at 6:30 p.m. in Room 200B.

Both groups will be performing music from various cultures. Under the direction of Deborah Morgan, the Elementary Choir will perform Irving Berlin's “I Love a Piano,” “Cherokee Lullaby” and a Midwest Cherokee Alliance earth-honoring song, “The Earth is Our Mother.”

Selections will also feature a story about “Dragons,” the poetry of Carl Sandberg in “Fog,” and a challenging four-minute musical tribute to longer days and warmer weather.

The two choirs will collaborate in a performance of Vivaldi's “Gloria” and the Caribbean calypso “Shake the Papaya Down.”

Carol Roskos will direct the Youth Choir in additional selections.

Pianist Andrew Harris will accompany both choirs.
