High School Honor Orchestra to perform at WVU

Outstanding string musicians from high schools in West Virginia and surrounding states are taking part in West Virginia University’s annual High School Honor Orchestra Feb. 28-March 1.

The students will present a concert at 2 p.m. Saturday (March 1) in the Creative Arts Center’s Lyell B. Clay Concert Theatre. Directed by WVU Symphony Orchestra Conductor Mitchell Arnold, the concert is free and open to the public.

Students in grades 9-12 are nominated by music teachers and band directors at their schools to participate in the WVU High School Honor Orchestra. During two days at WVU, they attend rehearsals and clinics with University string faculty members, perform with the WVU Symphony Orchestra wind section players and attend concerts.
