WVU Laureate Wind Quintet to perform Feb. 19

The West Virginia University Laureate Wind Quintet will present a free concert Tuesday (Feb. 19).

The public event will begin at 8:15 p.m. in the Bloch Learning and Performance Hall (Room 200A) of the Creative Arts Center on WVU’s Evansdale Campus.

WVU faculty members performing include Francesca Arnone, flute; Cynthia Anderson, oboe; John Weigand, clarinet; Lynn Hileman, bassoon; and Virginia Thompson, horn. They will be joined by faculty guests Jeanne Frieben, bass clarinet, and John Winkler, trumpet.

The program will include Paul Hindemith’s “Wind Septet,” three dances from Sergei Prokofiev’s “Cinderella” ballet (arranged by Cynthia Anderson) and Alvin Etler’s “Second Wind Quintet.”

According to Arnone, an interesting circle is represented by the program: Etler, an American composer and oboist, studied composition with Hindemith, who was a contemporary of Prokofiev.
