West Virginia University - News and Information ServicesSeveral West Virginia University musical groups will come together as the WVU Choral Area presents a concert celebrating the music of England at 3:15 p.m. Sunday (Oct. 28) in the Creative Arts Center’s Lyell B. Clay Concert Theatre.
The program, “An English Perspective,” will spotlight The University and The Women’s choirs with guest organist William Haller of the WVU music faculty.
Other guests include the WVU Guitar Ensemble, organist Charles Ludwick II and dancers from the WVU Division of Theatre and Dance.
The concert will feature the choral music of England’s most famous composers. Excerpts from William Byrd’s masses, Henry Purcell’s perennial favorite “Sound the Trumpet,” John Tavener’s “Song for Athene” and William Mathias’ “Let All the Nations Praise Thee” are among the sacred and secular music to be performed.
The WVU Guitar Ensemble will collaborate with The Women’s Choir on madrigals from John Dowland’s famous collections. Choral music from Benjamin Britten’s opera “Gloriana” will come to life through the artistry of The University Choir and WVU dancers.
In addition, Haller will perform Mathias’ monumental “Invocations.”
