WVU Laureate Wind Quintet to perform Monday at CAC

The West Virginia University Laureate Wind Quintet will present a concert at 8:15 p.m. Monday (Oct. 22) in the Creative Arts Center on the Evansdale Campus.

The concert, which is free and open to the public, will take place in the Bloch Learning and Performance Hall (Room 200A).

Faculty members performing include Francesca Arnone, flute; Cynthia Anderson, oboe; John Weigand, clarinet; Lynn Hileman, bassoon; and Virginia Thompson, horn.

The program will include “Suite for Wind Quintet” by Ruth Crawford Seeger, an American composer who wrote the piece specifically for a competition contest, which she won.

The quintet will also perform “Petite Suite” by Claude Debussy, an arrangement of his popular suite for piano with four hands.

“Wind Quintet No. 1” by Miguel del Aguila is the newest work on the program and creatively showcases a wind quintet in a few nontraditional contexts.
