Deputy attorney general to discuss hate crimes Wednesday at WVU law school

Megan Williams, a 20-year-old black woman from Logan County who police say was brutalized by six white people, is the subject of a hate crime forum Wednesday (Oct. 17) at the West Virginia University College of Law that will feature the state’s deputy attorney general.

Paul Sheridan will discuss “Hate Crimes, Gender Violence and Community Responses: a Forum in Honor of Megan Williams” at 7 p.m. in the Lugar Courtroom.

He will talk about how the Williams case has affected all West Virginians, no matter the color of their skin. The idea of the forum, organizers say, is to inspire a dialogue to eliminate such violence for good.

The forum is sponsored by student law groups The Coalition to End Race and Gender Violence, Alliance for Social Justice, WVU Law Chapter of West Virginia, Generation Next, Black Students’ Law Association and Women’s Law Caucus.

WVU’s Division of Social Work and its NOVA Institute are co-sponsors.
