WVU to screen film on life of women's rights pioneer Lucretia Mott Oct. 11

A film on the life of Lucretia Mott, a pioneer activist for women’s rights and other social justice causes, will be screened Thursday, Oct. 11, by West Virginia University’s Eberly College of Arts and Sciences and Center for Women’s Studies.

“Lucretia Mott Take One Productions” will be shown from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Mountainlair’s Shenandoah Room as part of WVU Student Life’s Multicultural Film Series.

Mott (1793-1880) was a Quaker minister who organized the first women’s rights convention in the United States. She was also an outspoken advocate for peace, labor rights and the abolition of slavery. She helped lead the formation of the Philadelphia Female Anti-Slavery Society.

Dr. Barbara Howe, who directs WVU’s Center for Women’s Studies, will moderate a discussion that will follow the film. Pizza and refreshments will be served.

The screening is part of a series of events for the fall semester offered by the Center for Women’s Studies. All activities are free and made possible by contributions to WVU’s Women’s Studies Program Development Fund.
