WVU's U92 to host debate on local smoke free initiative
West Virginia University’s student-operated radio station, U92-FM, will be examining a possible smoking ban in Monongalia County during its “Feedback” program airing at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19.
The show will feature a discussion how public smoking affects the health of Monongalia County residents as well as how a smoking ban would impact local businesses.
“In recent months, the issue of bans on public smoking has been raised all across the country and now that issue has reached Monongalia County,” said Jafar Amjad, U92 promotions director. “Laws banning public smoking have been passed in many counties around the region recently, and now Monongalia is considering implementing a similar law. It would ban smoking in all non-restaurant areas, including some favorite student bars, clubs and pubs.”
Featured guests and interviews will include local advocate organizations such as the Smoke Free Initiative representative Renee Hicks. In addition, local business and residents will be asked to comment on such a proposal.
