Jumpstart job search at WVU Employment Expo

Dress for success and bring plenty of resumes to West Virginia University’s Employment Expo from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday (Sept. 12) at the WVU Coliseum.

Recruiters from about 70 employers representing government and private industry will be on hand to meet job seekers. The career fair is open to students, alumni and community members.

WVU career services experts say it is important for students who are planning to graduate in December or May to start their job search immediately.

Susan Jennings Lantz, associate director of WVU’s Career Services Center, also has this advice: “Students should come armed with resumes and in conservative business-like attire.”

Keep jewelry to a minimum, she added.

Another tip: “One of the best ways to make a good impression when speaking with a recruiter is to do a bit of homework about the companies ahead of time,” Lantz said. “Take a look at the list of organizations coming to the fair (a list is available online at http://www.wvu.edu/~careersc/; click on “CSC Special Events” on the left side), and check them out on the Web. The more you know about their organization before you talk to potential recruiters, the more impressed they will be.”

WVU’s Employment Expo is sponsored by the WVU Career Services Center and West Virginia Radio Corp.
