West Virginia University - News and Information ServicesWest Virginia University President-elect Michael S. Garrison’s first official day on the job Monday (July 2) will start early and end late.
Garrison, who will become WVU’s next president in September, plans to begin the transition with a full schedule of activities, meetings and personal visits.
“I’ll be doing a lot of listening and learning over the next two-and-a-half months,” said Garrison. “I want to make the most out of this transition period so I’ll have a running start when I officially become president.”
Garrison’s itinerary for Monday includes a 6 a.m. workout at the Student Recreation Center, personal visits with WVU staff, meetings with two deans, a session with WVU President David C. Hardesty, Jr. and lunch with faculty members. He also plans to attend at least one summer session class.
“I plan to be very visible during the transition,” Garrison said. “During this period, I want people to share their ideas and concerns with me as we chart a course for WVU’s future success.”
Garrison said he expects to announce members of his transition steering committee in the coming days, as well as information on a series of public forums where people can take part in the transition.
