WVU Department of Political Science hosts crisis management lecture Thursday
An expert from the Swedish National Defense College’s National Center for Crisis Management Research and Training (CRISMART) will visit West Virginia University Thursday (March 22).
Lina Svedin will present “When the Crisis Ends Depends on How It’s Managed” at 4 p.m. in the Mountainlair’s Rhododendron Room on WVU’s Downtown Campus. The lecture is part of the Department of Political Science’s McManus Public Affairs Seminar.
The presentation will focus on how political leaders perceive and respond to unanticipated crises both at home and abroad.
Svedin has served as director of training and education for CRISMART and as a crisis management area expert for the cabinet offices of Sweden. She has also developed and taught courses in public policy, public administration and crisis management.
Svedin earned a bachelor’s in English with minors in political science and international relations in 1998 from Stockholm University in Sweden. She received her master’s in international relations from Stockholm University in 2001.
She is currently a doctoral candidate in Syracuse University’s political science program and expects to earn her degree in April.
The McManus Public Affairs Seminar is named for Lewis N. McManus, former speaker of the West Virginia House of Delegates. In 2003, McManus established an endowment that annually funds a program sponsored by the Department of Political Science in the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences at WVU.
