WVU English Department welcomes new senior lecturers
The Department of English in the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences at West Virginia University has welcomed four new senior lecturers.
Cynthia Fortner, Lynn Shelly and Jeri Zulli joined the faculty this year, while Lisa Wellinghoff was hired last year.
“In WVU’s English Department, we require our senior lecturers to have a doctorate in English,” said Timothy Dow Adams, department chair. “Because their major responsibility is undergraduate teaching, the main qualifications we look for in hiring are strong evidence of teaching experience and outstanding teaching ability.”
Fortner received her doctoral degree from Purdue University and specializes in women writers and composition.
Shelly’s doctorate is from the University of Pittsburgh. She works primarily in composition and rhetoric.
Wellinghoff, who was awarded a doctorate by the University of Tulsa, works in both contemporary British and American literature. She also studies Southwest American literature, poetry, creative nonfiction and professional writing.
Zulli has a doctoral degree from George Washington University. He concentrates on early and 19th century American literature, science fiction and fantasy, and composition.
“The English Department is very grateful for all of our senior lecturers, who carry a heavy teaching assignment and play an invaluable role in our department,” Adams said.
