Friday bell-ringing to honor WVU nursing student

West Virginia University student Erin Keener will be remembered during a bell-ringing ceremony at 11:50 a.m. Friday, Dec. 2, at Oglebay Plaza on the Downtown Campus.

Keener, 21, a senior nursing student from Rivesville, died Wednesday, Nov. 23, from injuries caused by a reported hit-and-run accident.

Investigators say a vehicle struck her in the early morning hours of Sunday, Nov. 20, in Fairmont. The search continues for suspects.

Keener was to have graduated from WVU in May. Her family said she enjoyed working with children and assisted young Hurricane Katrina evacuees staying at Camp Dawson in Preston County.

Family, friends and members of the University community are welcome to attend the service. Individuals who would like to speak should contact Alpha Phi Omega, 304-293-3071, or Gwyndaf Garbutt, APO bell-ringing coordinator, at 304-685-0768 or 304-292-1261.
