West Virginia University - News and Information ServicesThe West Virginia University Choral Area joins forces with WVU Opera Theatre to present the Franz Lehar's comic masterpiece “The Merry Widow” Sunday, April 25, at 3:15 p.m. in the Lyell B. Clay Concert Theatre.
The setting is Paris in 1890. Anna, a beautiful and wealthy young widow has come to the city to find a husband. Will the handsome Count Danilo sacrifice his happy bachelorhood to save his country, Pontevedro, from certain financial ruin? What surprises and intrigues will be revealed as the Pontevedrians enjoy the lively hospitality of Paris?
According to Kathleen Shannon, director of the WVU Choral Area, this concert version of the opera will be sung in English.
