Available firefighters sought in response to terrorist acts

The state fire marshal’s office, through West Virginia University’s Fire Extension Service, is asking all recognized fire departments to submit lists of available firefighters and resources to send to New York or Virginia in response to the terrorist attacks Tuesday (Sept. 11) at the World Trade Center and Pentagon.

Fire chiefs are to submit lists of firefighters who are at least 21 years old and have certification in Firefighter Level I and II, hazardous material operations, and basic first aid and CPR, state Fire Marshal Sterling Lewis Jr. said. Certification in trench rescue and confined space rescue will be considered.

Information should be sent to Tony Carrico at the state fire marshal’s office, either by e-mail at tcarric1@wvsfc.state.wv.us or fax at 304-558-2537.

Lewis issued the inquiry at the request of Gov. Bob Wise.
