WVU United Way drive exceeds campaign goal

The West Virginia University United Way campaign ended on a happy note today (Nov. 13) when Campaign Chairman Ken Gray told volunteers attending a wrap-up luncheon that WVU had not only met its $200,000 goal, but had exceeded it by around $1,000 with donations still being accepted.

Gray commended the University community, stating that it was the caring attitude of WVU’s faculty, staff and students that made the campaign so successful.

"As a result of your great efforts, I can report to you that we have again reached our goal of raising $200,000 for the United Way with contributions still coming in," Gray said. "You have demonstrated that by working together, we have the power to serve our communities."

He also recognized WVU’s students and the University’s faculty, staff and retired employees for their contributions.

"The students were a very important part of our campaign again this year," Gray said. "They kicked off their campaign with a concert on the Riverfront in October. They also parked cars at a football game, and fraternities and sororities organized a direct mailing soliciting support for the United Way.

"Many faculty and staff members along with retired WVU employees contributed in their usual generous manner as well. I applaud everyone’s efforts."

United Way assists 27 agencies in Monongalia and Preston counties which provide a variety of services to meet the needs of local area communities.
