WVU to announce new Institute for math learning

WHAT:  

  • Announcement of the new Institute for Math Learning at WVU

WHEN:  

  • 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 29

WHERE:

  • White Hall computer lab, third floor

WHY:

  • The Institute for Math Learning will address declining math skills among the nation’s public school students and college undergraduates. The institute will focus on enhancing student performance in mathematics by studying learning styles and developing appropriate curriculum options and innovative teaching techniques. The provost’s office has committed $600,000 to planning and equipping the center and employing highly qualified faculty to teach and conduct research in mathematics education.

Speakers will be available for interviews following the press conference.

Parking for media will be available in Area 9 on the lower level of the Mountainlair parking garage on Prospect Street. The White Hall computer lab is a block away at the corner of Willey Street and University Avenue.
