Prison overcrowding to be discussed at the WVU College of Law

Donley Memorial Law Lecture will present "Crime and Punishment: The Legal Ramifications of Prison Overcrowding," Wednesday, March 2 at noon in the Marlyn E. Lugar Courtroom at WVU's Law Center. February 1st, 2011The WVU College of Engineering and Mineral Resources is hosting William "Bill" McCartney, WVU Foundation Board member and energy trader with Vitol Capital Management, at 10 a.m., Friday, Feb. 4. McCartney's lecture, "Marcellus Shale: Alternative Ideas for Career Opportunities," will be held in room G102 of the Engineering Sciences Building. The lecture is part of the WVU CEMR Distinguished Lecturer Series. It is free and open to the public. -

Former Ohio State head football coach featured as Nehlen visiting lecturer
September 2nd, 2010John Cooper, former head football coach at Ohio State University, will visit West Virginia University as part of the Don Nehlen Distinguished Lecture series. Cooper will be on campus Wednesday, Sept. 29 to offer two lectures. He will speak to students at 11 a.m. and will offer a second presentation at 7 p.m. Both events will be held in the Erickson Alumni Center and are free and open to the public. -
Gender historian to speak at WVU on history of women in science
April 20th, 2010Why are the fields of science and technology still considered to be predominantly male professions? Julie Des Jardins, gender historian and author of "The Madame Curie Complex: the Hidden History of Women in Science," will provide historical context to this question in a lecture at West Virginia University on Friday (April 23). Sponsored by the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, the Des Jardins lecture will take place in Room G-102 of the Engineering Sciences Building at 1 p.m. -
Richmond Fed president details financial crisis for WVU community
April 14th, 2010As he constantly consumed information on the financial crisis that recently pushed the country into a recession, Richmond Federal Reserve Bank President Jeffrey Lacker saw a lot of reports that placed blame on economists for failing to predict the factors leading up to it. "I'm going to attack that notion for you today," Lacker told his audience of mostly business and politics students at West Virginia University on Wednesday (April 14). "I'm going to try and demolish that notion." -

Nabhan, Ph.D., is an Arab-American writer, lecturer, food and farming advocate, rural lifeways folklorist and conservationist whose work has long been rooted in the U.S./Mexico borderlands region he affectionately calls "the stinkin' hot desert."
