West Virginia University's Safety and Health Extension Service is offering three U.S. Department of Labor Occupational Safety and Health Administration classes in August throughout the region. On Aug. 17-20 OSHA class #501, Trainer Courses for General Industry, will be held in Richmond, Va. Also on Aug. 17-20 OSHA class #500, Trainer Courses for Construction Safety will be offered in Roanoke, Va. The class will also be offered Aug. 10-13 in Morgantown, W.Va.

The latest research-based techniques will be presented at a free West Virginia University Extension Service demonstration from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, June 24, at Dri Lake Farm, 348 Smith Road, Charles Town.

Up and down the mountains, across the bridges and past the lakes and rivers of West Virginia, 20 cyclists will pedal in the seventh annual "Outspoken for 4-H" bike ride. The fundraising event across the state kicks off at 8 a.m. on June 17 at Virginia Point Park in Kenova. The riders will travel 250 miles to arrive at their destination, West Virginia University Jackson's Mill State 4-H Camp, on June 20.

$4.2 million over three years energizes reading and nutrition program in West Virginia communities

Barbour County's 4-H Soils Judging Team again returned from Oklahoma City, Okla., with two national titles, enhancing the county's national legacy. Both the 2010 National 4-H Homesite Judging Championship and the National 4-H Land Judging Reserve Championship titles went to the four-member team coached by Roger Nestor, West Virginia University Extension Service agent and associate professor in Barbour County.
