With the game ball in hand, students and community members from West Virginia University and other schools will Run From Pitt on Saturday (Nov. 21) to raise awareness for autism. Participants in the 40th Run To/From Pitt (the destination switches each year depending on the location of the game) will leave Heinz Field in Pittsburgh at around 6:30 a.m. and arrive at Milan Puskar Stadium in Morgantown around 7 p.m. The run is organized by service fraternity Alpha Phi Omega.
West Virginia University students are looking for help in preparing for the annual Students Helping Other People (SHOP) and Toy Mountain programs to benefit local disadvantaged children this holiday season. WVU's Student Organization Services and Student Government Association are collecting financial donations to benefit 80 or more kids ages 6-12 from Monongalia County through mid-December.
Construction has already begun on the Trans-Allegheny Interstate Line and the West Virginia Public Service Commission will soon determine the fate of yet another giant transmission line proposal, the Potomac Appalachian Transmission Highway. The WVU Environmental Law Society will host a panel discussion, PATH and TrAIL: Where do they actually lead? to explore the motives behind constructing the transmission lines and the issues affecting citizens and utility ratepayers. The discussion will be held Thursday, Nov. 12 at 7:30 p.m. in Room 154 at the WVU College of Law.
West Virginia University?s International Student Organization is hosting the first annual International Dance Night Saturday, Nov. 14. The dance will be from 7-10 p.m. in the Blue and Gold Ballrooms of the Evansdale Residential Complex.
The West Virginia University community is invited to attend a week of fun-filled activities with the Elegant Eta Omicron chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority. Activities include: Study Abroad Seminar, Nov. 10 from 7-9 p.m. in the Bluestone Room in the Mountainlair; Food Drive, AKA booth in Mountainlair from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. all week. Non-perishable food items and printer cartridges will be accepted: Bingo, Nov. 12 from 7-9 p.m. in the Bluestone Room in the Mountainlair; and Date Auction, Nov.13 from 8-10 p.m. in Eisland Hall, room G24. Advance tickets will be available during the week at the AKA booth in the Mountainlair.
The WVU Mountaineer Maniacs are hosting a Coaches vs. Cancer fundraising dinner to help men's basketball Coach Bob Huggins raise money for the American Cancer Society.
Cooking, snowboarding, engineering, astronomy, service - whatever a student's interests are, there is most likely a student organization at WVU that fits.
The WVU Young Democrats are pleased to announce that Morgantown will be a stop on the Organizing for America "Solving Our Health Care Emergency Bus Tour."
Help a senior who is disabled, carve pumpkins with someone who needs a friend, collect food items or rake leaves - these are just some of things planned around the Morgantown community for 2009 national Make a Difference Day.
They are scholars, ambassadors, researchers and volunteers - and they are competing for the prestigious title of Mr. and Ms. Mountaineer at WVU.
