Watts Museum in the Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources presents its latest exhibition, The Story of Engineering: West Virginia University, 1887-2012. The exhibition explores the history of engineering at WVU and traces the College's growth since the founding of its first department, civil and mining engineering, in 1887. -
Team from Summersville Middle School wins 25th annual Pumpkin Drop
October 26th, 2012On a day when 41 out of 284 pumpkins survived the drop off WVU's 11-story Engineering Sciences Building, it was team No. 196 from Summersville Middle School which ended up closest to the target, winning the 25th annual Pumpkin Drop. -

WVU's Mohaghegh exploring possibilities of Japanese research on gas collection
September 18th, 2012A recent study conducted at Kyoto University in Japan and published in the online version of New Scientist, claims compressed carbon dioxide may be more suitable for fracturing methane-rich rock than water. Shahab Mohaghegh, a professor of petroleum and natural gas engineering at WVU and an expert in well modeling, says the study may hasten the development of large-scale carbon sequestration. -

First-ever Statler Scholars announced at West Virginia University
September 6th, 2012Seven students have been named the first-ever Benjamin M. Statler Scholars in Engineering and Mineral Resources at WVU. The group, made up of six undergraduates and one graduate student, will receive scholarship and research support from funding that was part of the historic $34 million gift made by Statler and his wife, Jo, earlier this year. -

Poundstone Lecture Series. The lecture is at 6 p.m. in Grand Hall A of the Erickson Alumni Center.
