WVU engineering professor receives $1.2 million for geothermal energy research

Brian Anderson has received $1.2 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funding from the U.S. Department of Energy for a three-year research project aimed at finding ways to use the energy beneath our feet _ geothermal energy, that is, stored in the hot rocks beneath the surface of the earth.

Engineering students from West Virginia University _ currently constructing a fully functional GM hybrid vehicle _ recognize the importance of reaching out to young people and educating them about the growing impact of sustainable resources on their futures. On Thursday, Nov. 19, students from WVU's School of Engineering will talk to 5th and 6th graders at East Park Elementary school in Fairmont at 9:30 a.m. and to 3rd and 4th graders at Skyview Elementary school in Morgantown at 2:00 p.m.

WVU Engineering Students Collecting Used Bikes for Area Kids

With the holiday season fast approaching, engineering students at WVU are planning an event to help local children ride into a happy holiday season. Tau Beta Pi, the engineering honorary, is hosting its Fall Bicycle Drive Nov. 1-14. Used bikes for children or adults that are in repairable condition will be accepted, then repaired and donated to area residents in need.
On the Road Again: WVU researchers to take transportable emissions lab to D.C. for bus emissions testing

West Virginia University's Center for Alternative Fuels, Engines and Emissions (CAFEE) will soon take its transportable vehicle emissions laboratory to Washington D.C., to test the emissions from several different types of alternative-fuel buses that are part of that city's transit fleet.

WVU dedicates simulated underground mine for training

WVU today dedicated a state-of-the-art, simulated underground coal mine for training new and experienced miners. The new facility - 340 feet long by 110 feet wide and set up much like an actual underground mine - is located at the WVU Academy for Mine Training and Energy Technologies near Core. It will be used for training new miners and foremen, rescue teams, mine fire brigades and for other specialized training.
