Three West Virginia University alumni with successful careers in their chosen professions have been elected to the board of directors of the WVU Foundation.
•Dr. Thomas Arkle III spent 32 years practicing orthodontics in Charlotte, North Carolina, before retiring in 2015. A native of Morgantown, Arkle graduated from the WVU School of Dentistry in 1978 before receiving his MSD in orthodontics from the University of Kentucky. He is the former owner of Arkle & Harris Orthodontics. Arkle and his wife, Dr. Stephanie Chen, a pediatric dentist, live in Charlotte.
• William “Bill” Sheedy has been with Visa since 1993. He sits on Visa’s executive committee and currently leads the global payment system’s corporate strategy and mergers and acquisitions efforts, global policy and government relations. In this role, he is responsible for charting the company’s strategic direction and driving growth; expanding the company’s relationships with governments and regulators globally; and leading critical initiatives and transactions with clients and partners around the world, with a particular focus on Europe. Sheedy earned his bachelor’s degree in finance from WVU’s College of Business and Economics in 1988. He and his wife Patti along with their three children reside in San Mateo, California.
• Dee Ann Remo is the chief executive officer and managing director of Heritage Wealth Advisors in Richmond, Virginia. Before that, she spent 17 years with KPMG. Remo has over 28 years of experience providing wealth management planning and services. She graduated magna cum laude from WVU in 1985 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the College of Business and Economics. Her husband, Jim, and the couple’s children, Ben and Sarah, also are WVU graduates.
Each will serve three year terms.
Two former long-time Foundation board members were elected to emeritus status. Robert A. “Bob” McMillan of Martinsburg and J. Franklin “Joe” Long ‘77 of Bluefield, Virginia; both served 15 years on the board.
The WVU Foundation, founded in 1954, enriches the lives of those touched by WVU by maximizing private charitable support and providing services to the University and its affiliated organizations. It is currently conducting A State of Minds: The Campaign for West Virginia’s University which runs through December 2017.
