Gee Mail: Marching to Macy's

WVU President Gordon Gee hopes to land a spot on the Mountaineer Marching Band as it prepares for its performance in the 2016 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

You may have heard that the West Virginia University Marching Band will hit a high note this Thanksgiving.

The nearly 400-member band will travel to the Big Apple to perform in the 2016 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, marking WVU’s first appearance in the nationally televised holiday spectacle.

WVU President Gordon Gee hopes “The Pride of West Virginia” has room for one more on the bus.

Gee recently invaded a Marching Band practice to “try out” for the squad. He even brought his oboe (He failed to get the memo that oboes aren’t marching band instruments.).

Despite his tongue-in-cheek attempts, Gee delivered a heartfelt pep talk to band members as they prepped for their big day.

“Our band is nicknamed “The Pride of West Virginia” for a reason, and we will be even prouder of them after their performance on Thanksgiving,” Gee said.

From a pool of 175 applicants, WVU was chosen as one of 10 bands to march in the parade, which will be televised on NBC.
