Ten candidates have been selected for West Virginia University 2016 Homecoming court and will now compete for the title of king and queen.

Candidates will begin campaigning today (Sept. 19). Voting will take place Tuesday (Sept. 27) and Wednesday (Sept 28) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at two locations: the Mountainlair and the Student Recreation Center.

The entire court will participate in the Homecoming parade, which takes place on High Street, scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, September 30.

The 2016 Homecoming king and queen will be crowned during a halftime ceremony at the WVU football game against Kansas State on Oct. 1 at Milan Puskar Stadium.

Homecoming queen candidates are:

Bronwyn Clagett from Fairmont, a member of the Honors College, is a senior music education major minoring in world music. She is rank leader in the WVU Marching Band, founding member of the WVU Chapter of the American Choral Directors Association and president of the WVU low bass club. She is also a member of the WVU Chamber Singers, WVU Taiko Ensemble, African Music and Dance Ensemble, WVU Steel Bands, WVU Trombone Choir, WVU Gamelan Ensemble and Kappa Lambda Chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota. She has been on the President’s and Dean’s list and is the recipient of the Geraldine Hess Lyon Education Scholarship, Phyllis McCane Osenton Scholarship, PROMISE Scholarship and Presidential Honors Scholarship.

Taylor Davis, a senior industrial engineering from Johnstown, Pennsylvania, is a residence assistant in Oakland Hall, president of the Society of Women Engineers, and a member of Alpha Omega Epsilon and WVU Cru. She is the recipient of the Blue and Gold Academic Scholarship and a BP Corporation Discovery Days program scholar.

Hilary Kinney, a member of the Honors College, is a senior journalism major minoring in political science and Latin American from Moundsville. She serves as a communications intern with the WVU Foundation and has served as a news writer for The Daily Athenaeum an intern with the West Virginia Legislature. She is the co-founder of the Food Recovery Network and WVU Students for Bernie, and a student ambassador for the Office of Sustainability. She was selected as one of The Daily Athenaeum’s Most Influential People of 2015 and crowned Miss Southern WV the same year.

Tayler Morrow, a senior psychology and biology dual major minoring in communication studies from Morgantown, is a four-year member of the WVU Marching Band and currently services as the drum major. She was also named the assistant drum major in 2014 and 2015. She is a member of the WVU Concert Band, Chamber Singers, Choral Union, and has performed with the African and Steel Drum Ensembles. She is also a member of Kappa Kappa Psi, WVU Psychology Club, and Sigma Alpha Pi. She is a four-year recipient of the PROMISE Scholarship; WVU Health, Science Technology Academy Scholarship; and the WVU Shenandoah Scholarship.

Kallie Nealis, a senior strategic communications major with an emphasis in public relations minoring in communications studies from Bridgeport, is enrolled in first year of graduate studies in journalism. She is a four-year member of the WVU Dance Team and was selected co-captain and vice president her junior and senior years. She serves a WVU Love Your Melon student ambassador, a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma, the Public Relations Student Society of America, and Order of Omega. In 2015, she was named “All-American Dancer” by the National Dance Alliance and “Most Spirited” by her teammates and coaches.

Homecoming king candidates are:

Louis Colonna, a senior business management major with an emphasis in entrepreneurship from Montgomery, New Jersey, is a member of the WVU Wrestling team and two-time varsity letter winner. He was recently named to the Big 12 Honor Roll.

Roshan Daniel, a senior mechanical and aerospace engineering major minoring in economics from Chantilly, Virginia, currently serves as the WVU University Relations social media ambassador and the treasurer for the Student Government Association and previously as the Chief Information Officer. He has also served as the Relay for Life marketing chairman and a member of the finance committee. He is the recipient of the J Bergen & Anderson MAE Scholarship, Rhododendron Scholarship, WVU Engineering Excellence Scholarship, Statler Research Trust Fund Scholarship, and Everette C. Dubbe Scholarship. He also placed first in the 2016 Booz Allen Hamilton Summer Games Challenge Cup.

Brandon Galindo, a senior criminology major minoring in Spanish, and Law and Legal Services from Chantilly, Virginia, is the vice president of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity, member of the WVU club track and field team, and has served as the vice president of finance for Culturas WVU, and has been named to the Dean’s list.

Timothy Martin, a senior animal and nutritional science wildlife and fisheries resource management major minoring in theatre from Towanda, Pennsylvania, is a four-year member of the cheerleading squad, a Heart of Gold Service Dog handler, a Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Facilitator, and teaching assistant. He is a 2015 Advanced Individual Training graduate, 2014 Basic Combat Training honor graduate, and recipient of the 2016 Army Commendation Medal. He also serves as a military police officer in the West Virginia Army National Guard.

Shurman Riggins, a senior business administration and marketing major from Lawrence, New Jersey, is a founder of the Mountaineer Special Olympics and former president of Sigma Alpha Epsilon and the Student Government Association. He is a member of the Chimes Junior Honorary Society, two-time Philadelphia Insurance Companies intern competition winner, and finished among the top 10 percent in the General Electric Interview Competition.
