Carrie White has been named director of West Virginia University’s LaunchLab, a resource center for WVU students with nascent business initiatives.

In her new role, which was effective August 15, 2016, White will provide guidance and resources to students interested in starting businesses. The LaunchLab services include helping develop business plans, conducting market research, protecting intellectual property, accessing technical development expertise and recruiting partners and team members from the university community and beyond.

White and her team will also work closely with internal and external committees and organizations focused on expanding entrepreneurship and innovation both at the university and across the state.

“We are incredibly fortunate to have Dr. White leading the LaunchLab,” said Mindy Walls, assistant vice president for entrepreneurship and innovation. “West Virginia University is publicly committed to boosting the economy of our community and our state by training and supporting the next generation of innovators and entrepreneurs. Dr. White has both the extensive experience in the field and the educational mindset to make the LaunchLab a place where truly exciting new business ventures are born.”

Prior to taking the position at WVU, White was a Professor of Business Law and Entrepreneurship and the Director of the Center for Entrepreneurship at West Liberty University for twelve years. She has also started, owned, operated and sold small businesses in the Pittsburgh area. White has bachelors and masters degrees in business administration from Franciscan University, a law degree from Duquesne University College of Law and a doctorate of education from WVU.

“I am so excited to join the WVU community and to work in the LaunchLab,” said White. “Working with young innovators is very important to WVU and to the state of West Virginia.”

The WVU LaunchLab is located on the fourth floor of Evansdale Crossing on the Evansdale campus. The facilities include office and meeting space for start-up teams, a MakerLab for prototyping, as well as a lounge area for networking and a classroom for in-depth instruction and special events.

Students and community members can call 304.293.9391 or email launchlab@mail.wvu.edu to make an appointment to meet with White or another member of the LaunchLab staff or to use the MakerLab on the premises. Walk-ins are also welcome on a first-come first-served basis during regular business hours.
