Gee Mail: WVU president sees hope, resiliency on summer West Virginia tour

President Gee's journeys in the summer of 2016 took him through Clay, Summers Preston, Taylor, Marion and Monroe counties, among others.

When President E. Gordon Gee returned to West Virginia University in 2014, he wanted to reinforce the notion that WVU was West Virginia’s university.

So he rode up and down the country roads and met with West Virginians in all 55 counties to share the story of WVU and show how the state and university are inherently intertwined.

That was not a gimmick.

Gee toured the state again in 2015 and continued the adventure this year.

But this summer’s tour took on a different tone after much of the state suffered extensive flood damage. Many lives were changed. Some were lost. But out of the ashes of despair rise hope and resiliency.

Gee’s travels to places like Clay County showed him firsthand the battle-tested mettle of West Virginians.

Gee also visited Summers, Preston, Taylor, Marion and Monroe counties, among others. From Weirton to Welch and all points between, Gee saw that West Virginians are united as Mountaineers.

Join him on this year’s tour, and see unity and resiliency for yourself. Here’s the video: https://youtu.be/Drm7FwKE1Is
