Led by President Gordon Gee, West Virginia University representatives return to the nation’s capital next week for the annual luncheon on Capitol Hill.
Gee will address a capacity crowd at the National Press Club on June 14, highlighting the University’s achievements during the past year, including being named one of just 115 “highest research activity” universities by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education.
For nearly 40 years, this Capitol Hill event luncheon has celebrated institutional success and informed key WVU constituencies in the metro Washington area of issues and opportunities confronting higher education from a national and statewide perspective. The event is coordinated by the National Capital Area Chapter of the WVU Alumni Association and honors West Virginia’s congressional delegation – Sen. Joe Manchin, Sen. Shelley Moore Capito, Rep. David McKinley, Rep. Evan Jenkins and Rep. Alex Mooney. Tickets may be purchases on the National Capital Area’s website: http://www.wvualumni.org.
Proceeds from the luncheon will benefit the John F. Nicholas Jr. National Capital Area Chapter Scholarship Fund, which provides financial assistance to students in the D.C.-Metro area attending WVU, and other worthy WVU causes supported by the chapter. To date, the NCAC has raised more than $150,000 for scholarships, making it the second largest scholarship fund provided by an alumni chapter.
The event, which is sponsored by Capital Caring, Widmeyer Communications, Hamilton Insurance Agency, United Bank, Asher Agency and Integrated Direct Marketing, begins with a reception at 11 a.m. followed by lunch at noon.
On June 13, a “Welcome to Washington” reception will be held at Bar Louie (701 7th St NW, Washington, DC 20001) from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Meet and greet with WVU faculty and local alumni, as we kick off the WVU President’s Luncheon event. Register for the reception by following this link.
