The Gamma Delta Crescent Colony of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity has been informed that its status as a colony has been withdrawn by the national headquarters, effective immediately. The colony will have 30 days to appeal the decision.

The Fraternity’s governing body came to the decision as a result of the colony’s failure to make “satisfactory progress towards achieving the requirements necessary to qualify for full chapter status,” according to a news release from the Delta Tau Delta national headquarters. “Those include academics, membership size and the ability to self-govern.”

Delta Tau Delta has had a presence at West Virginia University since the 1800s. The Fraternity left the campus in 2006 and returned after a seven-year hiatus in 2013 with a colony of newly recruited undergraduate men.

“I certainly understand the range of emotions such a decision may cause for the membership of Delta Tau Delta,” Roy Baker, associate dean of students and director of Greek Life at WVU, said. “The national headquarters has made its membership expectations abundantly clear. These expectations align with the direction we are taking Student Life to strengthen the Greek community at WVU.”
