Monday, March 14, to Monday, March 28
EXHIBIT: “Oversized Load”
Kaitlyn Hunter, a candidate for a Master of Fine Arts degree in the West Virginia University School of Art and Design, will present her MFA Thesis Exhibition at the Creative Arts Center’s Paul Mesaros Gallery, March 14-28. There will be a reception for the exhibition Monday, March 28, at 5 p.m. at the gallery. All events are free and open to the public. The gallery will be closed during WVU Spring Break, March 19-27. The Mesaros Galleries at the CAC are open Monday through Saturday, from noon to 9:30 p.m. The galleries are closed on Sundays and University holidays.
Tuesday, March 15
VISITING ARTIST: Robert Howsare
Robert Howsare will visit WVU’s Lithography Studio, 507A Creative Arts Center, as a visiting artist at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 15. Informed by a background in psychology and commercial printing, Robert Howsare’s interdisciplinary work explores failure and the glitches occurring within systems. He received his BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute and an MFA from Ohio University.
CONCERT: WVU Chamber Players
The WVU Chamber Players, an ensemble featuring School of Music faculty and outstanding graduate students, will present an eclectic concert at 7:30 p.m. March 15 in Bloch Learning and Performance Hall, 200A Creative Arts Center.
Wednesday, March 16
CONCERT: Young Artist Concert
Student musicians from as close as Morgantown and as far away as Corfu will take the spotlight in the upcoming Young Artist Concert by the West Virginia University Symphony Orchestra. Six students in WVU’s School of Music have been chosen as featured performances in the annual event. The concert, set for 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 16, in the Lyell B. Clay Concert Theatre of the Creative Arts Center, is free and open to the public.
Thursday, March 17, and Friday, March 18
PLAY: “Venus in Fur”
The WVU Lab Theatre will present “Venus in Fur” by David Ives at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 17, and 7:30 and 10 p.m. Friday, March 18, in the Vivian Davis Michael Theatre in the Creative Arts Center. The play explores the psychodrama inherent in the audition process between a playwright/director and a potential lead actress for his sensual new drama. All WVU Lab Theatre performances are free and open to the public, but space is limited, so audiences may wish to arrive early. Due to mature themes, “Venus in Fur” may not be appropriate for all audiences. Patron discretion is advised.

CONFERENCE: ACDA Mid-Atlantic Dance Conference
Close to 500 people will gather at West Virginia University to celebrate dance when its School of Theatre & Dance hosts the Mid-Atlantic Conference of the American College Dance Association March 18-21. In addition to the learning opportunities for participating dancers and faculty, the conference will offer a number of free performances for local audiences. At 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 18, at the Metropolitan Theatre, “Locally Grown – Dance in West Virginia” will feature professional dance companies and artists from the state. There will also be four major adjudicated concerts, each followed by a feedback session with the adjudicators. The conference will conclude with a Gala dance concert. These concerts will be held at 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday, March 19, 2 and 8 p.m. Sunday, March 20, and at 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 21, in the Lyell B. Clay Concert Theatre of WVU’s Creative Arts Center.
Saturday, March 19
EXHIBITION: “Here to There”
Huntington area art lovers will get a chance to enjoy works by West Virginia University faculty members in an upcoming exhibition. “Here to There: An Exhibition of Work by WVU School of Art & Design Faculty” goes on view at the Huntington Museum of Art on March 19 and continues through June 12. An opening reception for the exhibit takes place at the Museum on Saturday, March 19, from 6 to 8 p.m. Admission to the opening reception is free.
