West Virginia University is partnering with the Association of College and University Educators to showcase exemplary college professors in a nationwide faculty development program. This past fall, the university was one of 11 institutions to pilot the framework which the American Council on Education is endorsing as a leading statement of the skills and knowledge that all college educators should possess.

“We are honored to be part of this exciting initiative,” said Tracey Beckley, executive director of the WVU Teaching and Learning Commons. “Our involvement provides WVU with another nationally-recognizable way to reinforce our ongoing commitment to faculty success, through a research-based program that enhances student learning.”

ACUE was founded in 2014 by leaders in higher education to advance effective instruction, support college educators, and promote student success. ACUE partners with colleges and universities to implement scalable, research-based faculty development programs. Educators who complete course requirements earn a Certificate in Effective College Instruction co-endorsed by ACE and ACUE.

Founded in 1918, ACE is the major coordinating body for all the nation’s higher education institutions, representing more than 1,600 college and university presidents and related associations. It provides leadership on key education issues and influences public policy through advocacy.

Four WVU faculty will be featured as exemplar educators in upcoming modules: David Beach, Lisa Dibartolomeo, Lori Ogden and Mark Paternostro.

The ACUE and ACE officially announced the program Tuesday, March 8, 2016.
