Guest artist and percussionist Lisa Pegher will present a recital at West Virginia Univeristy at 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 27 in Bloch Learning and Performance Hall, 200A Creative Arts Center.

Pegher is a multiple percussion solo artist, drummer and composer who is known for pioneering percussion as a solo instrument within the orchestral realm and beyond. She has made it her life’s work to present percussion to larger audiences by commissioning, collaborating, and creating new works and performances that bring percussion to the front of the stage.

Pegher has been hailed by critic Marty Lash as a “gifted passionate artist, with a rockstar aura” and by New York City’s The Glass as “More than just a drummer – an alchemist of time, sound, and space, crafting visceral landscapes that penetrate the ears and mind.” Currently Pegher has been spending time composing her own original works for amplified acoustic instruments, electronics and live animation as well as commissioning and collaborating with other composers and artists on new works in a similar format.

Her most recent multimedia project, Minimal Art: Imaginary Windows was released in 2010. A drummer at heart, she has recently immersed herself in new projects including the founding her own collaborative avant band Controlled Chaos. Prior to that she was the drummer for the indie rock group Mira Mira based in Chicago and has been the drummer/percussionist for many indie-rock, avant jazz and cross genre bands throughout her career. She’s recorded on the AKM Productions Label, BMOPsound Label, Albany Records Label, and her own label, Lisa P. Music Productions.
