West Virginia University is offering a host of events in honor of Black History Month to encourage us to reflect, respond and celebrate.

• The premiere WVU Community Human Rights Film Festival continues through March 8 in the Gluck Theatre.

• The WVUMedicine Department of Surgery will host their annual Harriet Tubman lecture Wednesday, Feb. 10 at 8 a.m. in the Health Sciences Center North, Room 4080.

• The Center for Black Culture and Research will hold their second annual Music Showcase Wednesday, Feb. 10 at 7 p.m. in the Gluck Theatre of the Mountainlair.

• The WVU NAACP Multicultural Student Leader’s Potluck will be held Wednesday, Feb. 10 at the Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion on 1085 Van Voorhis Rd.

• The Successful M.A.L.E. Initiative’s Empowerment Session – Black History Month edition will be held Monday, Feb. 15 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Rhododendron Room of the Mountainlair. The session will be facilitated by David Fryson.

• The Center for Black Culture and Research will hold their LAMP Speaker Series on Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. in the Mountainlair Ballrooms. Former NBA Star Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf and NCAA Women’s College Basketball star Bilqis Abdul-Qaadir will be featured speakers.

  • ‘The Color of Food: Stories of Race, Resilience and Farming’ is co-sponsored by the Center for Black Culture and Research and the WVU Food Justice Lab. The program will spotlight the central role and unique stories of people of color promoting equity in our food system on Tuesday, Feb. 16 in the Rhododendron Room of the Mountainlair at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

• A series of events will be held during Africa Week Feb. 22 to 27. The events are sponsored by the African Students Association with support from DEI.

• The play ‘The Colored Museum’ will be featured in the Mountainlair Ballrooms February 23 and 24 at 7 p.m.

• A field trip to Motown the Musical in Columbus will be held Feb. 27. Please contact the Center for Black Culture and Research for more information.
