West Virginia University’s Evansdale Crossing, the latest addition to the Evansdale campus and a new center for student learning, activity and service, will hold a grand opening and various open houses on Friday (Jan. 29) from 1-3 p.m.

The building, adjacent to the Engineering PRT station, connects the lower and upper parts of the Evansdale campus, easing access to facilities located there. It houses WVU LaunchLab, the Reed College of Media’s new Media Innovation Center, the Mountaineer Hub, PNC Bank, Post Net, Barnes and Noble, and several restaurants, all of which will be participating in Friday’s event.

Members of the community are encouraged to attend and enjoy the resources and events showcased, including:

• Barnes and Noble, 1st floor, will be hosting authors Susan Malcolm (author of The Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Bucket List) from 9 a.m. until noon, and James Alexander Thom (author of Fire in the Water, Saint Patrick’s Battalion and Follow the River) from 3-7 p.m.

• The Mountaineer Hub, 2nd floor, will have specialists from the Office of the University Registrar, Office of Student Accounts and Office of Financial Aid available to help students with any issues regarding scheduling, FAFSA, campus employment and financial aid.

WVU LaunchLab, 4th floor, is where WVU student entrepreneurs “go first.” The LaunchLab will have professional legal, marketing financial and mentoring staff available to help students build their business. Meet their entrepreneurs, learn about their businesses, sample their products and participate in a 3D printing demonstration.

• The Reed College of Media’s new Media Innovation Center, 4th floor, will host its own open house from 1-3 p.m. The Center is designed to connect students and faculty from across campus in hands-on innovation, creative problem solving, and collaborative learning in media, entrepreneurship and technology. The event will include tours of the space and interactive stations featuring virtual reality, augmented reality, community media and digital storytelling. Come experiment with 360-degree cameras, brainwave sensors, 3D avatars and more.

• There will be food tastings featuring all the restaurants on the 5th floor which include Collo Rosso Pizza, Taziki’s, Octane Coffee, I Love Juice Bar, Little Donkey and Hugh Baby’s.
