For the fourth consecutive year, West Virginia University has been named as one of the 175 best colleges in the nation for veterans in the Military Times Best for Vets: Colleges 2016 rankings.

WVU ranked 70th out of 630 schools selected for the honor, placing in the top 11 percent of schools in the United States who work to make their campus a strong military community and provide the best programs and services for our country’s veterans.

The rankings factor is the most comprehensive school-by-school assessment of veteran and military students’ success rates. Best for Vets: Colleges 2016 is an editorially-independent news project that evaluates the many factors that make an organization a good fit for service members, military veterans and their families.

The detailed survey requires schools to meticulously document a tremendous array of services, special rules, accommodations and financial incentives offered to military and veteran students and to describe many aspects of veteran culture on a campus.

As part of WVU’s efforts to recognize veterans, WVU will honor current and former military personnel taking part in the December 2015 commencement by distributing red, white and blue honor cords to wear at graduation. These cords will be distributed at a dinner held Dec. 3 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hatfield’s in the Mountainlair. All graduating WVU veterans and their guests are invited. Please RSVP by Nov. 30 by emailing jerry.mccarthy@mail.wvu.edu or calling 304-293-8262.
