The 5th annual WVU College of Education and Human Services holiday children’s book drive will be collecting new and gently used book donations throughout December. In a combined effort with WVU’s Extension Services Energy Express Program. These books will be distributed throughout West Virginia to rural schools and low-income students.

The College of Education and Human Services (CEHS) alumni created this book drive in 2010 to provide books to disadvantaged or low income children who didn’t have access to books at home or at their school libraries. CEHS Alumni believe that all children should have the opportunity to discover the benefits of reading from an early age and now with the generosity of community residents, businesses and Energy Express site supervisors they are able to collect hundreds of new and gently-used books and make reading available to all children locally and throughout the state of West Virginia.

The following drop-off locations are accepting new and gently used books from Dec. 1 – 18, 2015:

• Morgantown Mall, Children’s Play Area
• Black Bear’s Suncrest and Downtown locations
• Suncrest Methodist Church
• Healthworks’ Maple Drive location
• 802 Allen Hall, WVU Evansdale Campus
• United Bank’s Cheat Lake, Sabraton, and Wharf locations
• The Morgantown Brewing Company, corner of University Ave. and Walnut Street
• Morgantown High School
• One Waterfront Place
• Jackson Kelly building at the Wharf
• St. Mary’s Church

“Access to books encourages literacy development. Providing reading materials to children with limited access to books will encourage literacy development and provide increased educational opportunities to our most disadvantaged youth,” said Terri Collier, Director of Energy Express. “Energy Express provides books to more than 3,000 children in West Virginia every summer and we are very excited to partner with the CEHS Alumni to increase the number of books that can be distributed for the children to enjoy.”

The CEHS Alumni Holiday Children’s Book Drive coincides with the College’s mission to enhance and improve educational opportunities in West Virginia.
