The work of more than 30 students from the West Virginia University School Art & Design filled the Douglas O. Blaney Lobby of the Creative Arts Center in early Nov. as part of the fourth Juried Student Exhibition.

The exhibit featured student work in ceramics, photography, sculpture, printmaking, graphic design, painting, drawing and woodworking.

Winners of the exhibition were selected during the event’s opening reception on Thursday Nov. 5, by juror John Pea, a Pittsburgh-based visual artist, illustrator and educator.

Pea’s most recent work, titled “Daily Geology: 2015,” is on display in the Laura Mesaros Gallery of the Creative Arts Center through December 9. His exhibit features dozens of works in the form of daily journal entries, which reflects Pea’s interest in creating art as a way of exploring the natural world and his daily interactions.

“The works displayed in this year’s Juried Student Exhibition were a dynamic representation of the quality and caliber of work produced by our amazingly talented students,” said art professor Jason Lee, one of the coordinators of the event. “John Pea’s creativity and thoughtful observation truly made him the right juror to select the winners, as each piece was so inspired yet distinct from the next.”
