The West Virginia University College of Business and Economics will welcome Mark Bowe to the B&E Distinguished Speaker Series on Nov. 4. Bowe will speak to the University and local communities at 4 p.m. at the Erickson Alumni Center.

Bowe, an alumnus of B&E and the former WVU College of Engineering and Mineral Resources, is the host and producer of the TV show “Barnwood Builders” on the DIY and GAC networks. He is also a West Virginia business owner and describes himself as a “serial entrepreneur.”

Bowe earned a management degree from B&E in 1993 and a master’s degree in safety management from the former WVU College of Engineering and Mineral Resources in 1994. He established Antique Cabins and Barns in 1996, a company specializing in the recovery and restoration of 19th century log and timber structures. That knowledge and those skills laid the groundwork for “Barnwood Builders,” which has just started airing its second season. Bowe said third season production has begun.

He is also working on a new TV show idea. Bowe said he has already pitched it to a network, and that network has agreed to make a pilot. Details on the show are forthcoming.

As the owner/broker of Mark Bowe Insurance Agency, he recently acquired a second insurance agency. He merged the two, and the agency now acts as a broker for more than 20 insurance companies.

He is described as “a fierce businessman and soulful philosopher with a penchant for a good punchline. He is a storyteller rooted firmly in the stories of his own rise, a laborer still cleaning the dirt from his fingernails, and a seer with a keen eye for what’s next.”

Bowe is the third and last speaker in the series during the fall semester. The Spring 2016 schedule of speakers will be announced soon. The B&E Distinguished Speaker Series is presented in part by Wells Fargo. Events are free and open to the public.
